A boulder beach

A boulder beach with landward beach ridges is formed in places where high-energy wave action gets to work on the unsorted and unconsolidated ice age sediments. The Lista Moraine is a good example. The effects are greatest where the shoreline is exposed to powerful wave action,  which can move boulders bigger than footballs to as high as three metres above mid-tide level.
