The plaice

The plaice is a flatfish commonly found on sandy seabeds. It is a master of camouflage and can make itself almost invisible on the variegated sandy bottom. It can throw sand and small stones over its back to hide its outline. The plaice spends its early years close to shore and later migrates out into deeper water.
