The cod

The cod is easily recognised by its beard-like chin barbels, its large head, and brown, spotted back. It gets its colour from its surroundings. Norwegians recognise two varieties – the reddish-brown “kelp cod”, and the pale grey “sand cod”. The Norwegian name for cod (torsk) means dried fish.
