Fine-banded gneiss
Fine-banded gneiss is formed when phyllite is metamorphosed. It contains much larger amounts of the greyish-white or pink mineral feldspar than the other gneisses we find in Jæren, and is thus lighter in colour. You can see a clear difference between the light and dark bands. Fine-banded gneiss is more resistant to weathering that the surrounding phyllite and so stands out as small ridges and crags.
