Crustaceans

There is relatively little life on the beach compared to other shoreline habitats. But if we turn over a piece of driftwood, we might see pale, centimetre-long crustaceans jumping about as they are exposed to the sunlight. Not surprisingly, these are known as beach hoppers. They feed on algae they find on and under the beach. During the day they stay hidden to protect themselves from the heat and dryness.
