Shelduck

In the Jæren area, the shelduck was traditionally referred to as a goose. In spring it digs a horizontal nesting burrow just a few metres from the sea. In some coastal areas, the farmers used to help them build their burrows. It is a migratory bird and returns to Jæren as early as February.
